Fire Queen Slot
WMS use their ‘Double Money Burst’ format for this mystical slot, which can be found both online and at brick and mortar casinos. The slot is atmospheric and brooding, with detailed animations and a haunting backing track. The non-standard reel configuration is very easy to get used to – and does add some extra interest to the game play.
Instead of a 5×3 or 5×4 grid, you get 2 reels with 2 symbols each (one at the top and one at the bottom left) and 3 reels with 6 rows on each. The symbols (including wilds) come stacked – which means from nowhere you’ll end up with multiple win lines ‘Bursting’ from the small reels on the left into the bigger ones. This is a very effective setup and is enhanced by some extra features found on the Fire Queen slot.
Playing the Fire Queen Slot
Before you spin you only need to set your coin amount, as the number of lines is fixed at 100. Each coin covers 2 lines, so the smallest spin amount is just 50c, for the high rollers you can bet $200 per spin if you wish. 200 spin auto-play is also available.
The symbols on the reels have a magical feel about them. These are headed up by the Fire Queen herself, with a flaming right hand. There is a phoenix, flying horse with a fiery mane, candle, potion and ring. Wins seem small when you look at the pay-table, however first impressions can be deceptive here. What you need to keep in mind is that the stacked wilds and ‘Burst’ format mean you could be looking at 20+ winning combinations on any one spin. 400 coins for 5 fire queens seems low, though once it is multiplied by 20 you are looking at a big pay-out.
Fire Queens are wild in this game – they substitute for any symbol other than the special feature sign. When you get a Fire Queen in any of the smaller sets of reels on the left, this triggers a transfer. What happens is that the queen is replicated on the other small set of reels, with a fire animation moving them either up or down. Getting this at the right time can lead to a lot more winning combinations.
Triggering the Fire Queen Bonus Round
You can trigger the bonus feature in two different ways. First getting 4 identical symbols in either of the smaller sets of reels will start this. Symbols which are substituted by the wilds also count towards that total. You can also get 3 special symbols (these look like a glowing ball with a phoenix inside on the 3 larger reels. If you hit 2 then the 3rd reel becomes fiery and speeds up in anticipation of whether the 3rd one will land. Combining the 2 ways to trigger the bonus gets you extra free spins.
Once the bonus game starts you are taken to a new set of reels. There is an excellent big picture of the Fire Queen to the left and the symbols have a red background. You start with just 5 spins, and will trigger more with 3 more feature symbols or identical symbols in the smaller reels. Any Fire Queen in the main reels will expand to cover all 6 positions during this bonus game. This can result in some big wins, especially those times you hit 2 or 3 of them at once.
Everything about this slot is high quality. From the animations and level of detail on the symbols through to the game-play, the attention to detail is obvious throughout. The sound track is used to good effect too. One small gripe is that the individual wins take a while to scroll through during the free spins (though the total amount is often worth the wait). I recommend this game; check out how the ‘Double Money Burst’ setup and professional production combine to make an impressive slot game.
