Egyptian Riches Slots
Slots themed on Ancient Egypt have been among the most successful online. This particular niche is now crowded, with just about every slot maker jumping on the Egyptian bandwagon – some with multiple titles and sequels to their popular games.
Egyptian Riches has a retro feel to hit compared to some of the other WMS titles. At the same time it is a playable and entertaining slot. One notable difference with the majority of WMS titles is that there is no free spins round in this game. Instead there is a pick-em game, which combines choosing scarab beetles with treasure chests. This is set up to give you the potential for big wins.
Playing the Egyptian Riches Slot
The base setup is a 20 line video slot, where the number of lines is fixed. What you do control is your bet amount per line, which can range from 1x (20c per spin) to $5 per line for $100 spins. Curiously, you can choose any amount in between, for example if you want to spin for $2.73c per line – then you are more than welcome. Like all WMS games, an auto-spin option is included.
Symbols are plain and blocky looking compared to the high-definition work of many other WMS slots. These are all set against a plain white background. The bonus symbol, Cleopatra herself looks almost alien, with oversized eyes and a golden head piece. The Sphinx is in the form of what looks like an ordinary (if rather proud looking) black cat. You will also find a bird, ankh sign, tablet with hieroglyphics, urn and the scarab beetle. All-in-all if you are playing simply to enjoy the graphics, there are better Egyptian slots around. For me the game-play is the reason to check this one out, and the graphics are so-so at best.
What you’ll want to see on the reels is the ‘Egyptian Riches’ logo symbol. This has the largest single prize, with 5000 coins for 5 on a line and 1000 coins for 4. This logo also acts as the wild symbol for this slot – and will take the place of any of the regular symbols (not the bonus symbol) in making up wins. The logo prize is big compared to the next biggest prizes, which are the statue of Anubis, for 700 coins and the eye of Ra for 500. Next come the falcon and cat for 250 for 5, with the remaining symbols contributing smaller prizes.
There is an Egyptian drum-based soundtrack in the background for this game, which makes a great change from the standard computer noises that Williams Interactive often employ.
Egyptian Riches Bonus Game
If you get 3+ of the Cleopatra bonus symbols, you will trigger the pick-em bonus game. This is more complex than some I have played, and can result in a big-win on occasion. There is also a scatter prize of 20x your total bet amount for 5 Cleopatra symbols, and 2x for 4 of these. 4 Cleopatra symbols also gives you a 2x multiplier for bonus game prizes, with 4x for 5 of these symbols.
There are two elements to the pick-em game – which surprisingly is introduced by a female voice. To the left of the screen you’ll see a row of 5 scarab beetles. You begin by choosing one of those, which reveals a win amount. You then choose one from a large grid of treasure chests. This can reveal a money amount (which is combined with what you revealed on the beetle) and added to your total. You could get ‘pick another scarab’, or ‘collect’ which ends the round. You keep choosing chests and accumulating wins until you hit a ‘collect’ at which point all of the remaining prizes are revealed.
For me the bonus game makes up for the retro look at feel of this game – it is possible to accumulate a big win if you are lucky, especially if you get to pick extra scarab beetles. If you can look beyond the plain graphics, this is a solid and enjoyable slot.
