Lion’s Roar Slot from Rival Gaming
There is something not quite right about the lions on this beautifully produced 50 line online slot from Rival Gaming.
They look great, if a little too fluffy. I think what bothers me is that they also look like they are trying to smile – not what you’d really expect from the king of beasts!
Don’t let this put you off of checking out this excellent Rival Gaming slot. There are plenty of ways to win big, and the setting behind the transparent reels is a stunning African sunset.
How to Win on Lion’s Roar
As you might expect, the lions are the top symbols in this game. There are 3 types with generous payouts for a 50 line slot, and one extra which is a wild symbol and doubles all wins it creates with other symbols.
The male lion with the strange ‘smile’ is the best paying symbol of all. 5 of these on a win-line will net you 3000 coins, with 300 coins for 4 and 75 coins for just 5. A portrait of a female lion comes next; this is worth 2000 coins for 5, 200 for 4 and 50 for 3. A longer body shot of that same lion is the 3rd best paying symbol – worth 1000 coins for 5.
A face-on portrait of the male lion, which emphasizes his yellow eyes, is the wild symbol. As well as doubling wins in regular play and the initial free spins game, this has an important role to play in the roaring free spins.
A statue of a monkey and what could be a gold coin or maybe a shield, an African mask and a shield with 2 spears make up the remaining regular symbols. There are also playing card symbols ace down to 9 in play – playing an important role by making up the smaller wins.
The final symbol on the reels is a scatter. This triggers the first of the bonus games with 3+ on the reels. You’ll get 10 spins for 3, 20 spins for 4 and 50 spins for 5.
Free Spins Bonus Games on Lion’s Roar
The initial free spins are very much the same as the regular game. You’ll see a counter for your remaining spins and accumulated wins. Any wins you do get during this bonus round are doubled compared to the pay table. This means that wins involving a wild symbol are doubled twice over – which can give you a real boost.
What you want to see are the scatter symbols during the free spins round. 3+ of these trigger a bonus-within-a-bonus where the multipliers are even bigger.
This is known as the ‘Roaring Free Spins’ (the animations will let you know all about this). You get 3 of them for 3 scatters, 6 for 4 scatters and the maximum 15 for 5 scatters. There are two differences compared to the initial free spins game. First the wilds now expand to cover the entire reel when they hit. Second, wins involving these wilds have a 5x multiplier.
Lion’s Roar Design and Setup
Music playing in the background is distinctively African, ‘world music’ if you like. The tune itself is cheerful, with a rhythmic drum track in the background. When you spin the reels you get a wind type sound, and see for a moment the orange hues of the plain behind the reels. Some African style chanting accompanies wins.
As I mentioned in the introduction, the symbols are beautifully drawn – though the lions do have somewhat strange expressions. Animations for most symbols are simple, spinning playing card symbols and so on. If you hit the lions you’ll have a very effective roar along with your animation. These take on a new level during the roaring free spins game.
The setup is a 5 reel video slot, with 3 rows of symbols on each reel. There are 50 win lines as a default. I recommend you decline the option to lower this, as there are expanding wilds (though only during the roaring free spins, this is still an important factor). You can choose you coin size and play up to 10 coins per line – either manually or automatically.
There is no doubt this is a premium slot, with beautiful artwork and production. I would recommend it for the looks alone, though the game-play is also worth a mention. Regular play is solid, though the free spins game within a free spins game is when the wins really start to kick in. Check out Lion’s Roar for yourself soon!
