Cream of the Crop Slot from Rival Gaming
Everything about this game is wholesome. In fact, if it were not for the real money gambling element, it is the kind of game you’d be happy to recommend to your grandmother! The theme includes a lot of vegetables, a cute rabbit and a bluebird. The slot is accompanied by a cheerful tune too.
You’ll immediately notice that the reels do not spin. Instead, seeds fall down into the screen, and different vegetables grow. The timing is nicely done to resemble reels coming to rest – and wins are worked out in the standard way. There is also a bonus game in Cream of the Crop. This has two parts, the first one involving a vegetable patch and the second involving free spins.
How to Win on Cream of the Crop
The best paying symbols are the corn and the pumpkin – with the corn having a bigger prize by some considerable margin. 5 of these growing on one of the 20 win lines will get you a healthy 2500 coins, with 250 for 4, 25 for 3 and a consolation prize of 5 coins for just 2 from the left. Pumpkins (along with all the other symbols) require 3+ on the reels, and pay 750 coins for 5 of a kind.
Your wins can be considerably boosted any time you see the cute looking rabbit. This is an expanding wild symbol, which can appear on reels 1, 3 and 5. When wins can be created the entire reel will be made wild – often creating new winning combinations. As is usual on online slots, this wild substitutes for the regular symbols, though not the scatters (treasure chests).
Regular wins come from the other vegetables. The peppers are the next highest after the jackpot symbols, and are worth 500 coins for 5. Next comes the cabbage, carrot, beetroot, onion, radish, sunflower and finally the dandelion. There are no playing card symbols growing into the reels of this slot.
The final symbol is the treasure chest; this is a scatter and so not tied to any one win-line. When you hit one there is a chiming sound, and if you hit 3 then you get to play the 2 part slot bonus game.
Cream of the Crop Bonus Game
First of all, you’ll end up in a vegetable patch where nothing has grown. Instead you see white crosses marking out where the seeds were planted. You then click on these markers, which can reveal one of 3 things.
Many will reveal vegetables. These have a dual purpose, adding coins to your win and adding 1 free spin for each one you choose. There are also treasure chests, which reveal larger cash prizes (in coins), though do not add free spins. Finally there is a weed, when you hit this the first part of the bonus game is over – and you’ll go to part 2.
Once you return to the reels you’ll see a pop-up showing how many free spins you have won. Click OK here to start the spins. Your wins are now totaled in the top left of the screen, though there is no other difference between the free spins game and the regular game. You can trigger more bonuses (and so more free spins) while you play.
Setup and Design for Cream of the Crop
This game uses the standard 20 line setup which Rival Gaming use frequently for their video slots. You can change the number of win-lines, the size of your coins and the number of coins per line in the control panel underneath the reels.
You will find the design to be unique, with no other slots that I have ever played uses growing instead of spinning! The symbols are bright and cheerful, and will grow over an idyllic field scene with a wooden fence either side and sunshine in the background. The cartoon-like style which Rival Gaming use for many of their games is applied to the vegetables, and particularly to the rabbit on the reels, bluebird which occasionally flies around and garden gnome, who runs across the screen during the free spins. Like I mentioned in the intro, this is about as wholesome as a real money slot could ever be.
Music is not to my taste, a cheerful plodding tune on a loop. The loop is too short, and the repeating tune eventually started to get under my skin. It does go nicely with the theme though. Other noises include strange growing and ‘pop’ noises as the vegetables appear.
If you would like a change from some of the more common slot themes, and to try something completely different, then Cream of the Crop could be just the slot for you. While this is a professionally produced number with a nice 2 part bonus game, it will not be to everyone’s taste. Check it out for yourself soon!
