Showgirls Slot from Novomatic

It is not too often that Novomatic ditch their trademark slot sound effects and use a swinging jazz soundtrack instead. This is what you’ll find with the new Showgirls game, a 25-line video slot which is themed around the shows of the 1920’s or 1930’s.

This is a bright and bold game with an interesting bonus round called ‘Girls Gone Wild’.

During this game you will collect special wilds which turn up to 4 different showgirls into wild symbols as you progress through the game. There are plenty of ways to hit bigger wins in the base game too.

How to Win on Showgirls

With 25 win lines in play, there are many opportunities to line up winning combinations – and having wild symbols and stacked (repeated) regular symbols certainly helps. The main symbols are 4 very different showgirls, which are all seen in different poses.

The best paying symbol is an imposing blonde wearing a top hat. This lady is worth 2,000 coins for 5 of a kind, 600 coins for 4 and 100 coins for just 3. A brunette holding a cocktail is next at 1500 coins for 5, a redhead reclining is worth 800 for 5 and a lady sitting within a crescent moon will bring you 600 coins. The regular symbols are completed with playing card symbols which have a distinctive art-deco design.

There are two more symbols on the reels. One is a big red heart with a contrasting yellow background. This is the wild symbol, which will substitute for all of the regular symbols covered above. The other is a scatter symbol which is a bottle of champagne on ice, with 2 glasses. This pays 150 coins if you hit 3 anywhere on the reels – it also kicks of the bonus feature.

Girls Gone Wild Bonus Feature

You get 15 free spins to start the game – though this can be extended by 15 more if you hit 3 more of the scatter symbols during play. There is a jazz track playing continually during the bonus, and not just while you are spinning the reels.

A sub-game, in which you collect heart wilds to activate the showgirls to turn into wilds is the potentially profitable part of this game. There are new wilds on the reels with roses on them instead of hearts. When you hit one on the 5th reel, this floats up to a new graphic above the reels, which shows the 4 girls each with 3 greyed out rose icons next to them. Once you hit 3 for the first girl, she becomes a wild – which will enable many more wins. If you get 2 girls wild you could well be in for a big payday. It is possible to get all 4 girls wild, though realistically you’ll need to extend the number of free spins at least once to get there.

Stage Front Design

The reels are in the middle of an elaborate stage design. You can see the red curtains either side and stairs leading up to the stage. Above the reels the gold logo stands out from the somewhat muted colors of the background. While the symbols are bright, multi-colored and have a variety of shapes – the background of the reels is a plain dark blue color. The showgirls are very detailed, and a real highlight of the graphics in general. Each one has an animation when you win, for example the reclining redhead turns out to be reclining in a giant champagne glass!

Leaving out the beeps that the majority of Novomatic slots share is a great move, with the soundtrack adding nicely to the overall retro feeling of this slot. Only the ticking sound when you win, which invites you to take a 50/50 gamble is still used. In addition to the music the girls will say ‘oooh’ when you hit roses during the free spins round.

There are 25 win lines in play, though you could lower this if you prefer. With all those extra wilds during the free spins game, you might regret playing just a few lines instead of the full 25. Bets start at just 2c per line. The standard Novomatic auto-play option is also available.

Overall Experience

This slot stands out from others in the Novomatic range visually and with the rich jazz soundtrack too. While the base game is entertaining enough, things really come to life during the free spins bonus. The sub-game of collecting roses to enable more wilds not only adds to the interest, it can also add to your profits.
