Reel King Slot Game from Novomatic
There are now many slot machine games which include the ‘Reel King’ type bonus game, which proved to be a hugely popular innovation in the Novomatic slots range. The idea is that you get a bonus set of reels, which are topped by a friendly looking king and are separate from the main game.
There are just 3 reels on this (as opposed to 5 in the main game) and only colored 7’s as symbols. If you trigger this bonus using the unique ‘tunes’ method in this Reel King slot, then you’ll get to try for more prizes on the second set of reels. Meanwhile, there are plenty of ways of winning on the main 5-reel game – with jackpot symbols, wilds and fruits.
How to Win on the Reel King Slot
This game has 20 win lines, and occasionally sees stacked symbols (more than one appearing on each of the 5 reels). The stacked jackpot symbols play an important role in the biggest possible win – which comes from covering the entire 5 by 3 grid in these symbols. You’ll win 10,000 coins if you achieve this, which is high for a 20 coin per spin bet. 5 jackpot symbols on a win line are worth 500 coins, with 200 for 4 and 100 for just 3.
The other symbols are a mix of fruits and playing card symbols. Roles are reversed from the normal ‘hierarchy’ of payments, with the card symbols giving some reasonable prizes and the fruits propping up the lower end of the pay table. Kings are worth 200 coins for 5, while queens clock in at 100 coins. You’ll get 60 coins for 5 jacks or tens, with 40 coins for 5 of either fruit. All symbols pay from 3 of a kind on the reels.
There is a brightly colored wild symbol in play. This substitutes for all of the symbols, including jackpot one. There are no scatters or special bonus symbols to exclude from being substituted – which at least makes it easy to spot your wins as they fall.
Reel King Slot Bonus Game
Instead of hitting bonus symbols, you need to complete 5 notes in a tune to trigger the bonus game. You’ll hear the first note as reel 1 stops and sometimes an ascending tone for reel 2. More rarely the ‘tune’ continues, when it gets to the 5th note the bonus game will kick in.
First you see the 4th reel getting covered in a regal pattern. This then becomes a miniature slot, with the king above it. There are only 3 reels in this game, and the symbols are either 7’s or small black diamonds (signifying no symbol). You click the spin button and an animation where the king pulls a lever starts off the spins. If you hit a win, then you get another spin – which continues until you miss.
There are some good payouts available, with 3 of the red 7’s winning 500 coins, 3 of the yellow ones 200 coins and 3 blues 100. You will most commonly get 40 coins for 3 mixed colors. Your prize is totaled up below the reels.
Clean and Simple Design
This is a bright looking slot, which uses bold primary colors. The background is blue, and covered in a regal insignia on a slight slope compared to the reels themselves. The logo above the reels is red with a crown either side and the background of each reel plain white. There is nothing special design-wise about the symbols, which are bold and blocky – overall they give the slot a clean and simple look which is a positive in my eyes.
There are few animations beyond flashing and lines moving over the reels in the base game. Though things get more interesting when the smaller set of reels appear for the bonus. Again this is a basic, though cleanly designed animation. Most of the sounds are very much Novomatic standards, though you get some ringing and popping while the wins are being counted. There are also the musical notes which trigger the bonus game.
The setup has a default of 20 lines, though you can lower this (note that the full set of jackpot symbols pays less for fewer than 20 lines). You can increase the number of coins per line if you wish, or choose the ever-present auto play option. Like the majority of Novomatic slots, you’ll be offered the chance to take a 50-50 gamble after every win.
If you enjoy the more straightforward slots, then you’ll undoubtedly enjoy the popular Reel King. The bonus game with the 2nd smaller set of reels is entertaining and has proven hugely popular over the years. Add to this the chance of a 10,000-coin prize for a single spin and you have a winning combination!
