Inferno Slot from Novomatic
Available In:

The name of this slot sounds fairly dramatic – setting the expectation for flaming wilds, bonus games or other hot features in the game play. When you play Inferno you will find as simple a 5-reel video slot game as it is possible to play. There are no features, no wild symbols – only fruits and a single scatter symbol to keep you entertained. In many ways, this game is what Novomatic built their business making – a solid and enjoyable slot from the early days of video slot history. The only reason to play is to turn your coins into a potentially big win.

How to Win on the Inferno Slot

There are 5 reels, each with 3 rows of symbols and 5 win-lines crossing them for the Inferno slot. With the exception of the cherries, which pay from only 2 from the left, all of the symbols require a minimum of 3 to trigger a win.

You will find a jackpot type prize, with the star symbol paying 100,000 coins if you are lucky enough to hit 5 of a kind. The prize for 4 is 10,000 coins with 1000 for just 3. There is then a big jump down to the next highest paying symbol s which is shared between the bell (which appears to have wings) and a bunch of grapes. These are worth 5,000 for 5, 2000 coins for 4 and 400 for 3 of a kind. Next come the other fruits. These are all the slot machine classics with the plum, orange, lemon and cherries all present. Every fruit has the same prize at 2000 coins for 5 of a kind, down to 200 for 3 – with the cherry also paying 50 coins for 2. Note that the pay tables on Novomatic slots update depending on your bet size. The figures above are based on a 50 coin (50c) spin.

Crowns are the scatter symbol. These pay based on the total number which appear on the reels, regardless of where they land. If you get one on each reel, this is worth 2500 coins, with 500 coins for 4 anywhere in view and 100 coins for just 3.

If you are at all familiar with Novomatic slots, then it will come as no surprise that you will be offered a double-or-nothing gamble option after every win.

Design and Setup of the Inferno Slot

This game has an early video slot look and feel, and is very bold and bright. The logo above the reels is a fiery orange color, and you will see flames in the background. Like on most Novomatic titles, the reels take up the majority of the space on the display. These have a plain black background, and the fruits themselves and single primary colors very much in the old style of slot design. Only the crown, bright star and wings on the bell make this game stand out at all.

When you win you will see the background squares of the symbols which make up the winning combination light up – with lines going through the wins. There are some very dated sound effects, bells ring for bigger wins and the ascending computer noise kicks in as your win is added to your total credits.

Inferno is very easy to play. The 5 win-lines are fixed, so you only need to decide how much you would like to spin for and then click either the start or the auto-play button.

Overall Experience

There are more interesting and better designed slots out there – even within the Novomatic range. One thing this game cannot be faulted for is giving a solid slot experience. It does feel like you are playing something from the distant past, without so much as a wild symbol or free spins bonus round to bring the game up to date. The (only) highlight is the potential for a decent sized win if you are lucky enough to hit 5 of the glowing orange stars.
