Anubix Slot from Novomatic
Available In:
USA Regional

The name of this slot clearly refers to the ancient Egyptian God Anubis, who is depicted with the head of a dog on the body of a human. At first you might be a little surprised not to see this character on the reels, but Anubis does eventually appear in the bonus round as a special symbol with a very nice prize attached. Also on the reels you’ll find four characters from ancient Egypt, three males and a female, the female also appears to the right of the reels throughout the game and playing a major role as the wild. The free spins bonus game is the highlight of this slot, where you’ll find a more interesting way than usual to find out your number of free spins.

How to Win on Anubix

In total there are just five win lines when playing Anubix slots, which is fewer than the majority of five-reel casino slots. These 5 lines are made up by the three horizontal lines and the two diagonals. You’ll need to land three or more consecutive symbols from left to right on one of these five lines to land a win.

Your biggest wins come along when the very attractive female symbol appears on the reels. She offers both the highest payouts and is the wild symbol. This means that she will substitute for every other symbol apart from the scatter, often enabling additional wins. The three male characters come next on the pay table, one wearing a Tutankhamun style head adornment, the second dressed as a Pharaoh, while the third is literally flame haired (he doesn’t look too concerned that his head is on fire though). The standard symbols are completed by the playing cards 10, J, Q, K and A.

Every time you land a win you can make use of the gamble option. Having hit the ‘gamble’ button you’ll be taken to a screen showing a face down playing card and your aim is to predict whether the card is black or red. You can gamble up to five times, meaning you can actually multiply your initial win amount by 32.

Pick and Spin in the Anubix Feature Round

The scatter symbol is a gold and green rich pendant and pays out an immediate scatter win when appearing on three or more of the reels, the largest payout coming for the maximum five. More importantly perhaps, you’ll also gain entry to the free spins feature round. Unlike many free spins features, you won’t have a set amount of spins, as you’ll actually have to earn them.

You’ll now be taken to a separate screen showing three columns of three stone tablets. You’ll now pick a tablet from each of the columns and each will reveal a number of free spins, the three picks all added together for your total. Like any good pick em round, you’ll also see the numbers you didn’t choose uncovered. In total you can be awarded any number between 5 and 18 free spins in this way.

Now the free spins will start and there is one big difference in this round. The Anubis symbol now makes an appearance occasionally on reel 3 and will double any wins created.

Design and Setup

Anubix slot games are played out against the backdrop of scenery from ancient Egypt, with the pyramids looming large in the distance, while the female character stands to the right of the reels adorned in jewels and trinkets. Visually you wouldn’t say this is the best slot, as many of the symbols, especially the playing card ones, although this is somewhat offset by the nice animations when you land a win with the male/female characters and Anubis himself. The accompanying soundtrack is a little bit disappointing, with only the very occasional nod to the Egyptian theme.

Handy options at this 5 reel slot include the ‘auto play’ which sets the slot in motion without any interruptions (hit the button again to stop it) and the ‘pay table’ button which brings up both the pays and the game rules (this will update dynamically based upon your chosen coin value).

Overall Experience

With just 5 win lines, this Novomatic designed slot will certainly appeal to those who enjoy more spins for their money. The game isn’t the most wide-ranging in terms of features, although the one feature it does have is a very enjoyable one. Picking the number of spins does give the feature some originality, while the added Anubis symbol which allows bigger wins is another nice touch.
