Wish Master Slot Game

There is a lot of competition in the ‘Genie of the Lamp’ theme for online slots. Popular games include Millionaire Genie from 888 and Aladdin’s Wishes from RTG.

The Wish Master certainly starts off strong, with an expansive opening sequence going through a treasure filled cave.

The question this review will answer is whether this NetEnt slot can compete with the bigger name games in the genre?

How to Win on The Wish Master

The base game is fairly simple, with 5 reels and 3 rows of symbols on each – you’ll line up symbols in the usual way. Things really spring to life when the bonus feature kicks in. At this point you’ll be awarded a mix of one or more special behaviors which can give a serious boost to your wins.

There are 20 win lines, and the top win is for the purple and red jeweled butterfly symbol, which will bring you 750 coins. You’ll get 200 coins for 4 and 30 coins for 3 from the left. Next comes what could be a cat (or rabbit), a jewel with an orange gem in its forehead. This will get you 500 coins for the maximum 5. The green jewel is worth 400 and the bird-like blue one 300 coins for 5.

Playing card symbols ace down to jack have been decorated in a standard Persian style and make up the smaller wins – worth anything from 100 down to 50 coins for 5 and paying from 3 of a kind and up.

Wilds play a key role in this game. You’ll find some in the base game, playing the usual role of substituting for any of the regular symbols to create extra wins.

Complex Free Spins Game

Above the reels you will see 3 dark circles, which grow and shrink while you play. These are spots for special behaviors during the free spins bonus game. This is triggered by hitting a scroll symbol with a picture of a lamp on it anywhere on the reels.

You’ll see an impressive animation first of all. A golden lamp on the bottom right of the screen will rattle and a Genie will pop out. This is not a friendly genie like those in other slots. This one looks like a demon, with fire in its eye-sockets. The good news is that he grants a wish, by adding one of many specials – along with 10 free spins.

Here are the extras you can get:

Extra Wild Symbols: Separately, either the butterfly or the cat symbols can become wild.

Completely Wild Reel: The first reel is surrounded in flames and becomes completely wild for the duration of your free spins.

Expanding Wilds: Any wild that you hit during your free spins will turn the entire reel they are on wild for a single spin.

Win Multipliers: This can be 2x or 3x on all wins for the duration of the free spins.

Random Wilds: This causes 2 floating wilds to appear, turning symbols wild at random on each spin.

The best thing about this game is that you can get combinations of these specials. Each one is triggered by hitting another of the scrolls with a lamp. Each time you hit one you will trigger 10 free spins again too. This is an excellent bonus feature, with the only downside being that things fall a little flat again when you go back to the regular base game!

Simple Design with Stunning Animations

The reels of this slot are transparent, showing a cave full of jewels behind. Overall this is a simple design, with smart though not graphically detailed symbols and a simple logo above. This really does contrast with the animations. When you win you get the standard pulsating symbols (with the wilds doing a little ‘dance’), is it the feature and in particular the genie which really brings this slot to life. You’ll get some very clichéd music and sound effects while you play too.

20 Win Lines

The Wish Master uses a 20-win line setup, and you will not be able to change this number. You can choose to bet up to 10 coins per line, and to pick a coin size anywhere from 1c though to 50c too. All NetEnt slots have an auto-play option, and this one is no exception.

Overall Experience

This slot has a bigger contrast between a fairly simple base game and complex free spins round than many. The production is excellent, and really carries the day in many ways. While the free spins game is interesting – especially when you start to mix the specials that come with it – this is not quite frequent enough to make the game engaging on its own. If you enjoy solid slots, and do not mind a longer wait, then this bonus game is worth seeing.
