Thunderfist Slot from NetEnt

When you first see this game you’ll see many of the hallmarks of the many Asian themed slots available online. On closer inspection, the theme is more like a fighting game from one of the early Nintendo type console games.

Thunderfist uses a 243 ‘all-ways’ system (called ‘all bets’ here), and has a bonus game where wins have a dramatic way of being given multipliers. With stacked wilds in the base game, wins can come out of nowhere in this colorful and entertaining game.

How to Win on Thunderfist

Using the ‘all bets’ system means that symbols only need to be on 3 or more consecutive reels from the left to trigger a win. If you get 2 symbols on one reel, and then one on the two others (using a simple 3 of a kind win as an example), then you have won twice – and so on. This means that if a stacked wild (an old master type guy) on a reel and trigger a win, you will have at least 3 wins – and two symbols on another reel makes this at least 6. This system makes it very easy to spot your wins, even if it can sound a little complex in writing.

This system of wins does mean that individual payouts seem small. There is plenty of big-win potential in Thunderfist, this comes from hitting multiple wins in the same spin (and when you get multipliers during the free spins bonus game).

The top paying symbol is a guy in red wearing a head band. This is worth 100 coins for 5 of a kind, 25 coins for 4 and 10 coins for just 3. Next comes a lady in pink holding what looks like a fan made of knives at 75 coin. An old guy with a big white moustache is next at 50 coins, with a guy in blue and another with ‘wolverine’ type claws sharing that 50-coin top payout.

Smaller wins are made up of playing card symbols which are nicely designed – appearing to be bamboo tied together into the shapes Ace down to 10.

Golden Dragon Scatters and Multiplied Free Spins

Gold dragon symbols do not have a separate payout in this game – only triggering the free spins bonus game with 3+ on the reels. You’ll get 10 free spins for 3 anywhere in view, 15 for 4 and 20 spins for 5.

When the bonus is triggered you’ll see a graphic with the different fighters looking towards a castle on a hill. Once your spins started, you’ll see a dramatic addition to the game play. Each time you win, a list of multipliers from 2x to 5x will appear on the screen. Lightning will then appear (along with storm sound effects) and blast away all but one of the multipliers – which is then applied to your win.

With the mix of all-bets wins, stacked wilds and these extra multipliers – hopefully you will be seeing the blue and red dragons which make up the ‘big win’ graphic often.

Console Game Design

While the characters look like they come from a console game (complete with oversized heads), the setting is a lot more natural. Around and behind the reels you will see a bamboo forest, with the frame of the reels made up of bamboo roped together into a grid.

Typically for a Net Entertainment slot, all of the symbols are nicely drawn – each having a little animation (switching sides and so on, rather than anything too elaborate). The 5 main fighters are the stand outs, I particularly liked the vicious yet glamorous lady with the fan. The best of all is the angry looking guy on the stacked wild. When he creates wins lightning comes from his hands. The spiked teeth are not explained, though certainly give him a sinister air!

Expect short bursts of traditional Asian tunes, and the occasional gong strike among other sound effects.

All-Bets Setup

As explained above, Thunderfist uses an all-ways 243 winning combinations setup. You only need to spin for 25 coins to enjoy all of these lines, with your coin size starting from just 1c. You can adjust both your coin size and betting level – which enables you to bet up to 10 coins per line.

Overall Experience

This slot contains all of the elements which make for a great NetEnt title. The production and graphics are excellent, and the base game has an element where you can win big (stacked wilds in this case). The highlight is the multipliers of the free spins round, which can make a big difference if you are lucky enough to hit a multi-line win alongside them.
