Subtopia Slot Game
Available In:

This is not the only slot from slot software giants Net Entertainment which is themed around submarines.

Their game ‘Silent Run’ is certainly worth a spin if you enjoy Subtopia. With high quality graphics and production, this game does an excellent job of bringing the characters and themes of underwater exploration to life.

There is some unique game-play too, with a random multiplier assigned to many of your base game wins. These multipliers can go up even higher during the free spins bonus game.

How to Win on Subtopia

There are 25 lines crossing the 5 reels of this slot. While the wins look fairly standard, you should keep in mind that any of them can be multiplied by up to 5 times in the base game. This is controlled by a sliding mechanism you’ll see at the bottom right hand side. Many wins will be 1x, though you have chance of 2x, 3x or 5x – this slider is moving all the time, so you’ll never quite know what you will end up with on any given spin.

The best paying symbol is a flame haired guy with glasses, who is holding a mechanical contraption of some kind. 5 of these will get you 2000 coins (before any multipliers) with 200 coins paid for 4 and 60 coins for 3. What looks like the captain (wearing both a hat and an impressive beard) is next at 1200 coins for 3. A lady carrying a pile of books (900) and mustached guy in an old style divers suit (600) and another person holding a huge spanner (400 for 5) make up the submarine crew and the best paying symbols.

Playing card symbols are in use. These have been effectively designed, looking like metal with strange mechanical yellow lines and balls on them – and make up the smaller wins.

You’ll find 2 special symbols on the reels. First the wild symbol fills its usual role of substituting for any of the regular symbols to help complete wins. This looks like a Mayan mask (or maybe something alien) and glows in blue and gold. Wilds do not substitute for the second special symbols – the scatters.

These have prizes based on the total number in view on the reels (up to 100x your total bet). 3 or more of them will also trigger the free spins bonus game.

Free Spins with Multiplier Meter

Before the free spins start you will see a nice graphics sequence. The symbols move away from the reels, revealing a naval base behind. A metal plaque then comes in, with an octopus design at the top – announcing the free spins.

Instead of a set number of spins, a multiplier meter comes into play. When you spin this will often substitute for one of the symbols on the last reel. It looks like a piece of equipment from a ship, and shows 2x, 4x, 6x and a skull. You’ll either get wins multiplied by whichever number it stops on – or when you hit the skull that will be the end of your free spins game.

Detailed Underwater Steampunk Design

The way that Net Entertainment bring this slot to life with the Victorian characters and air of mystery (via the glowing wilds) is excellent. The setup reminds me of a steampunk submarine! The reels are encased in metal, with a bright blue logo above. They are transparent, giving you a glimpse of the ‘base’ behind when they spin.

Symbols are among the most detailed I have seen in an online slot – with the diver (and his huge white moustache) standing out for me. There are some minor animations, for example the pulsating of the wild and spinning of the compass which is the scatter symbol.

In the background you’ll hear a bubbling water noise, with the occasional radar ‘ping’. This is interspersed with bright and loud bursts of music when you hit wins.

Adjustable 20 Line Setup

You can lower the default 20 win lines for this game – in addition to selecting your coin value (between 1c and 50c) and the number of coins you wish to play per line (up to 10). The regular NetEnt auto-play and bet max options are also offered.

Overall Experience

This game gets an easy 10/10 for the overall quality of the production from me – and has some nice gameplay touches too. The chance of a multiplier in the base game certainly helps to keep that part from getting dull. The bigger multipliers during the free spins is the main attraction, where any win can be up to 6x what is on the pay table.
