Pandora’s Box from NetEnt
There is already a slot with a Greek myths theme in the NetEnt range in the form of Muse, Wild Inspiration – this one takes a different look at this popular online slot theme.
Pandora famously opened a box which brought all the bad stuff into the world. Fortunately, the box stays shut throughout and what you’ll find is a straightforward 5-reel online slot with wilds that multiply your wins.
There is a free spins game, where your wins are subject to a further 3x multiplier. Combining the wild and free spins multipliers gives you the potential for some big payouts.
How to Win on Pandora’s Box
With a maximum win of 120,000 coins over the 20 win-lines in a single spin – Pandora’s box certainly has some potential. You will find 2 different types of wild on the reels, both of which show Zeus. On all the reels you’ll find regular wilds, which are predominantly white. Any wins created with these are doubled, and the biggest single line win (10,000 coins) comes from lining up 5 of these. On reel 3 you will see the same symbol in gold. This is a ‘golden wild’ and will multiply any wins it helps to create by 4. As usual the wilds do not substitute for scatter symbols.
The regular wins are smaller, though with the wild + free spins multipliers it is easy to get a boost for these. A warrior’s helmet is the best paying at 750 coins for 5, 100 for 4, 25 for 3 and 2 coins for 2 (this is the only symbol which pays for 2, the others need a minimum of 3 on a win-line). Next comes a battered shield and a musical instrument – both will get you 500 coins for 5. An urn and grapes also have paired prizes at 250 for 5 – while the final original symbol is some olives – worth 200 coins for 5. Playing card symbols from ace down to 10 make up the smaller wins. These have been designed in the classic angular Greek font, each one has some grass or plants with it.
As well as triggering the free spins bonus game, the scatter symbols can win you cash prizes which are based on multiples of your total spin amount. 2 scatters (Pandora) anywhere in view is worth 2x your bet, 3 gets you 5x, 4 are worth 25x and you get a huge 500x your total bet for 5.
Open the Pandora’s Box Free Spins Round
Hitting 3+ of the scatters also triggers the free spins bonus, with 10, 20 or 30 spins for 3, 4 or 5 symbols. This bonus looks and plays in exactly the same way as the main game – in fact there is not even a screen or graphics sequence between the base and bonus games.
The only real difference is that you get 3x the amount on the pay table for any win. This works with the wilds, making wild wins 6x and golden wild wins 12x during play. This can give you some very nice windfalls at times. You can retrigger for more spins with 3+ scatters during the bonus.
Floral Greek Design
While the overall design of this real money slots game is instantly recognizable as Greek – Pandora’s Box does look different to many titles with the same theme. There is an overall green feeling to the game, with vines growing up the columns at the side of the reels and most of the symbols having some grass, leaves or flowers in some form. The symbols are the classic Greek slot concepts, with the helmet having a bright red plume and an urn with very distinctive geometrical patterns on it. The olives stand out for me, it is unusual to see a non-traditional fruit on a slot machine!
There are some animations on the reels – though these are limited to the scatters (which show Pandora opening her box) and the wilds, where you get a short sequence of lightning from Zeus. Sounds are limited too, with the strum of a stringed instrument sounding for any wins.
You can adjust the win-lines for this game, with the default and maximum number being 20. Bets start at just 1c per line and you can multiply by up to 10 as well as increasing your coin size.
This is a simple, though nicely produced, Greek themed slot – which has a greener take on the ancient myths than many rival games. There is nothing unusual in the game play, this slot is all about the multipliers and potential for some bigger wins. With up to 4x in the base game via the ‘golden wilds’ and another 3x on top in the bonus round, that potential is certainly there.
