Jack and the Beanstalk Slots
Not too many slots start with an animated sequence where a boy with a goose runs through the clouds chased by a 2-headed purple ogre. Then again, not too many slots have the amazing production and graphics enjoyed by Net Entertainment’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
This 5-reel video slot has several features to keep you entertained, including ‘walking wilds’ in the base game and wilds which get better and better during the free spins bonus round.
How to Win on Jack and the Beanstalk
Winning symbols are a mixed bunch, with everything from a bemused looking goat, to a watering can and the 2 headed purple monster appearing on the reels. There are 20 win-lines in total, and plenty of opportunities to trigger wins on several lines at once with wild symbols.
The best paying regular symbol is the young boy Jack, worth 1000 coins for 5, 200 for 4 and 20 for just 3. Next comes the 2 headed monster at 750 coins for 5. The goat and an axe share the next prize of 250 coins for 5 and the watering can 125 coins. There are also playing card symbols in play. These make up the smaller wins. Each one is made up of a beanstalk type design, which does make it a little difficult to immediately spot your wins in-play.
A gold logo on a red background that reads ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ is a special wild symbol. Whenever you hit one or more of these it will move one to the left after every spin – before disappearing from the first reel. If you hit one in the 5th reel, you get 4 additional spins, each with a wild walking to the left. It is possible to have more than one of these walking at the same time. Mostly it will just be a couple of extra free spins each time, though during a session on this slot these can start to add up nicely.
Up the Beanstalk for the Free Spins Feature
Treasure chests are the final symbol you will see during regular play. You need 3 of these anywhere in view to trigger the 10 free spins bonus game. When you do trigger this, the reels disappear, and Jack (who normally stays in the house to the left of the reels) comes out. The beanstalk then grows, catching Jack by the leg and depositing him in the clouds – where the free spins game takes place!
There is a game within a game during this feature. An additional symbol in the form of a key lands in reel 5. Each time you hit a key, this fills a gap for special wild symbols below the reels. As your spins progress you can collect enough keys you enable the following special wilds:
Bag of Gold: These are stacked 2 deep on the reels, letting you get better coverage.
Golden Goose: These are stacked 3 deep, so if they land well you can get entirely wild reels.
Golden Harp: This is the final type and is an expanding wild, which will cover the entire reel each time one shows on the reels.
These are all walking wilds, which move to the left just the same as the regular ones. The biggest benefit of them is that your remaining free spins do not go down while you have wilds on the screen. With several that overlap, your free spins bonus can be a lot longer than the 10 spins initially awarded. Even better, all wins with wilds in them have a 3x multiplier.
Detailed Design with Stunning Animations
In the base game you’ll see a ramshackle house to the left of the reels (Jack will sometimes appear from a doorway here). Underneath the reels is a patch of dirt with a small shoot in the middle of it (the beanstalk!). Butterflies occasionally flutter across the reels.
Symbols are very detailed, with the cheeky yet disheveled Jack the highlight – though the purple ogre looks very good too. There are few animations within the symbols, just the sparkling treasure chest and glowing key have any animations.
When you go to the free spins game things really pick up. The opening sequence is excellent, and when you start the spins Jack stays on a cloud to the left of the reels and cheers for wins. Those different types of walking wild also add some movement to the game. During the free spins you’ll get some classical type music playing too.
Behind the lavish production you’ll find a standard Net Entertainment setup – 20 win lines over a 5 by 3 grid. You can adjust your coin size and the multiplier, though those win-lines are fixed for this game. Auto play and bet max options are offered.
This is a popular slot, and for good reasons. The solid game play matches the excellent production to produce a well-balanced game. There is certainly some big win potential. During the free spins round it is possible to have several wild reels, or a combination of wild reels with the other wilds joining them together.
