Twisted Circus Slots

While the graphics are very well produced, it is the slowed down circus music which really brings this slot to life for me – adding a slightly surreal air to the game. The symbols are bizarre enough, with Siamese twins and a monkey playing the accordion just two examples. There is a break out bonus game where you’ll pick symbols until you match three. There is also a free spins game where your wins are tripled. The Twisted Circus uses the 243 ways system, where consecutive symbols from the left always trigger wins as long as there are no reel-wide gaps.

You’ll see a red velvet curtain and two lion statues at the top of the reels. The circus theme is continued with the controls – which look like the old style posters that would appear when the circus came to town. Reels have black backgrounds, and the colours of the odd mix of symbols are slightly muted. These include a contorted clown, old style circus strong man, lady with a snake, a man / woman reversal act (one side of each!), a ticket and the circus ringmaster himself. Each symbol has its own short tune and animation when involved in a win. You’ll get longer animations for 5 of a kind. The break out bonus has its own graphics, which are excellent – including an opening sequence where the money opens up the velvet curtain.

Playing Twisted Circus

With no win-lines to select, your only task before starting to play is to choose your bet size. You can choose the coin size, and the number of coins to use per spin – which is multiplied by 30 to give you the total spin amount. At the lower end you can spin from 30c, with $6 the max on the version I played. Auto play is available, with the most popular 10x and 25x spins visible for quick access.

Scatter symbols (the tickets to the show) get you the biggest single payment – these are worth up to 100x your total bet for 5 on the reels, with 10x for 4, 2x for 3 and your spin amount back for just 2. The other symbols require a minimum of 3 from the left hand reel to trigger a prize.

The ‘Twisted Circus’ logo is wild – this will substitute for anything except the scatter (ticket) symbols. 5 in a row get you 25x your total bet, and will usually make several other winning combinations with different symbols.

Circus performers make up the bulk of the wins, these might seem small – though with the 243 ways system you’ll make up for this by hitting a lot of wins. The best prize is for the fire-eater (8.5x your bet) with the snake lady, strong man and Siamese twins coming next. There are no playing card symbols used in this slot.

One final special symbol is the ringmaster himself – this only appears on reels 3, 4 and 5. If you get all 3 you will trigger the ‘Circus Match Bonus’.

Bonus Games on Twisted Circus

There are two games to cover, first the pick-em game (Circus Match Bonus) and then the free spins round.

You’ll see an animated intro involving the monkey and a very tall man (along with the ringmaster) and then see a screen of stars in circles. Your task is to pick these until you have matched 3 of a kind. You will then win the prize associated with that symbol, from the display on the right hand side. This is an entertaining feature, though essentially just a random pick-em game.

If you get 3, 4 or 5 of the ticket / scatter symbols, you’ll win 13 free spins. There is nothing particularly different in the game play, the only noticeable difference being a new box above the reels to count your wins. You’ll enjoy the fact that all wins have a 3x multiplier during this feature – and that the game can be retriggered during play.

One of the better MicroGaming slots, with a nice balance between the slightly dark and surreal theme and the entertaining and light hearted game-play. That slowed down music is the craziest element of all. There are some big wins possible, with the multiplier attached to the free spins round potentially leading to some big pay-outs. While the break out bonus is entertaining, there is only so much fun you can have with picking random stars. All-in all a great slot and one that I
