Ancient Dragon Slots Machine
This game uses the signature Konami slots layout of 4-5-5-5-4 symbols across the 5 reels. This allows for 100 win lines, giving you plenty of action.
The theme is very much Asian influenced. The dragon in question is golden; it comes to life on the reels – breathing fire when it is involved in a win. Other classic Asian slot favorites on the reels include a golden carp, water lily and turtle.
You’ll only find one special feature in this game – a free spins round. Fortunately this comes with plenty of extra wild symbols, and can result in some big wins.
Payouts start at just 2 of a kind on a win line from the left hand side (in the case of the 2 different dragon symbols, others require 3+). With a mandatory 100 win-lines in play you’ll experience small wins on most spins. These are interspersed with some bigger prizes, which strangely are shown in the pay table as based on line bet times 2. The golden Ancient Dragon is wild, and also has the biggest prize. This is worth 2000 coins for 5 on a line, 400 for 4, 100 for 3 and 10 for just 2. With so many win lines in play you are bound to hit many more wins with a few dragons on the reels substituting for the regular symbols.
Regular wins are headed up by the stone version of the dragon at 600 coins for 5. The carp and turtle follow this at 400 for 5 – with the fan, lily and playing card symbols providing the more modest wins. You will find the stone dragons stacked, this comes into its own during the free spins bonus game.
Scatter symbols are the golden yin /yang signs. You will trigger between 5 and 12 free spins for 3, 4 or 5 anywhere on the reels. There is also a separate prize which is related to your total bet, rather than the per-line amount. This is 5x your bet for 3, 10x for 4 and 50 times your total bet (plus the maximum 12 spins) for 5 on the screen.
Free Spins with Stacked Wilds
During the bonus the stone dragons, which are stacked on the reels, become wild. When they land on the screen the stone falls away and reveals a golden dragon beneath. You can get one or more reels entirely wild in this way – which in combination with the 100 win lines will produce a lot of real money wins. When you also get the regular yin / yang wilds, things can get even more interesting!
It is possible to trigger more spins by hitting 3+ of the scatter symbols during the free spins game. The new spins are simply added to your total and the game continues as normal.
How Ancient Dragon Works
Despite having an unusual reel setup where the first and last reels have 4 rows of symbols and the middle ones have 5 – the game-play is very much standard on Ancient Dragon. 100 win lines cross the reels from the left. This is a default and can’t be lowered by the player. The minimum spin is just 1c per line, or $1 per spin. You can go all the way up to 80c per line ($80 per spin) if you wish, and can also engage the auto-play option.
The only thing which stands out about the design for this game is the Ancient Dragon symbol. This is detailed, golden and has a very effective animation where it breathes fire when involved in a win. The best you will get from the other symbols is flashing on and off when they appear in a win line!
While all of the symbols are nicely drawn, the best that can be said about the overall look of this game is that it is a solid generic Asian themed slot. When you change to the free spins the green patterned background turns red, and the stone dragon symbols become golden when they land. Sound effects are not a strong point for Konami slots. These sound like they were created on a 1980’s home computer, and include different tunes for different win amounts.
Ancient Dragon – Conclusion
Other than a free spins round with stacked wilds, there is nothing to differentiate Ancient Dragon from the crowd in the popular Asian themed slots niche. The game-play is smooth and the constant stream of smaller wins will keep your bankroll in play while you wait for those spins. If you enjoy solid slots without too many interruptions, then Ancient Dragon could be worth taking for a spin.
