The Bees! Casino Game
You’ll think this is a simple, even cute, 5 reel online slot on first view. After taking The Bees for a spin, it will quickly become apparent that there are hidden depths. The theme is very cartoon-like, with happy looking bees and honey pots. A piano track plays in the background, giving the whole game a summer feel.
As well as scatters, wilds and regular wins – you can enjoy a scrolling second screen bonus game. Here you have to fly a bee, avoiding poison and picking up flowers for wins.
There is also a swap system, where you can switch round symbols on the reels. Hitting 5 wilds will trigger a 3rd feature, which can result in some very big wins.
How to Win on The Bees Slot
Regular wins in this game are increased by now needing to start from the left hand reel. You will get 3 of a kind wins starting in any of the first 3 reels, and 4 of a kind wins starting on both reels 1 and 2. I have assumed you are using the ever-present ‘max bet’ which is on all BetSoft Slots – playing 5 coins per line over the 9 win lines for all of the amounts listed below.
The best paying regular symbol is The Bees logo, which comes in an orange star. This will pay 1500 coins for 5 on a line, 750 for 4 and 375 for just 3. The female bee (complete with eyelashes and a pink background) is next at 500 coins for 5, 395 for 4 and 150 for 3. After that comes the hive (250 for 5), male bee and flowers in pink, orange and then red.
Scatter symbols are an overflowing pot of honey. These are not tied to the win-lines, and pay depending on how many are on the reels. 5 are worth 2500 coins, 4 will get you 1250 with 500 for 3 and 250 for just 2.
Wild symbols show both bees in a garden setting with the word ‘wild’. These will substitute for any of the regular symbols to make wins – though not scatters. There is no bonus symbol, you will trigger the second screen bonus by hitting the male and female bees on reels 2 and 4, with the logo in between.
The Bees Slot Bonus Games
The break out bonus games is surprisingly impressive compared to the simple look of the main game. First you go to a screen which explains what is about to happen. You then get to select your character (either the male or female bee) to represent you in the game. Next you go to a scrolling arcade type game, where you will control the bee by using the arrow keys on your keyboard. As you move from left to right a lot of flowers appear. You need to fly into as many as possible. There are different colored ones for points, some with bigger amounts of credits on them and others which increase your flying time.
There are also poison bottles in flowers mixed in, these are visible, though do move around. You have to avoid flying into them as this will end your bonus. When the timer hits zero your wins are totaled and you return to the main game.
In the bonus game you can collect up to 3 green flowers with orange in the middle. These can then be used for a second bonus back in the main game. These are swap symbols, and each one can be used to buy you a swap of symbol on the main reels. For example, if you would have made 5 of a kind, only one symbol is in the wrong place, you can pay 1 spins worth of credits to switch them around.
Wilds trigger the last bonus, which happens on the main reels. If you hit 5 of these, they will come alive and swarm around – before recombining into a winning combination. With 5 wilds you can be sure of some bigger wins when this happens!
Design and Setup of The Bees
I should start this second by saying that this is not one of the cinematic 3D productions which BetSoft has been creating recently. In fact it is very 2-dimensional, pastel in color and cartoon-like in production. The overall effect is positive, and the bees do have a certain amount of character to them. Reels are framed by blue sky and grass. There are basic animations, which involve shrinking and growing symbols when you win. The animations for the second screen game are excellent, like an early arcade game in style.
The setup of this game is the standard 5 reel, 3 rows video slot – this time with 9 (changeable) win-lines. You can choose your coins from 2c and up, and can bet up to 5 coins per line. The bright control buttons include both a ‘spin’ and ‘bet max’.
First impressions can be wrong, as the depths and entertaining features of this slot have shown. The main game play is very simple, even slightly retro. When you get to fly your bee, or hit those 5 wilds at once – this game takes on a new life, and is certainly worth taking for a spin.
