Paco and the Popping Peppers
It’s not often I come across a slot with a name that would do a fine job as a tongue twister, although this is not the only unusual aspect of this BetSoft slot. The game starts with one of the best animated opening sequences you’ll find online, where a seemingly quiet Western tumbleweed town roars into life when the mustachioed Mexican ‘Paco’ takes up his guitar to the delight of many fruits and vegetables, including of course, the peppers!
How to Win on Paco and the Popping Peppers
At first glance the slot seems somewhat standard, but the moment you hit spin you’ll realize that this slot plays very differently. This is because of the ‘popping’ symbols, where any winning lines will see all of the winning symbols pop and disappear. The symbols from above fall into their places, with new symbols appearing at the tops of the reels. The reels will now be re-evaluated and any new wins paid out too – this continuing until there are no more wins. Each of these additional wins comes for the cost of just one spin, but there is more good news to come.
On the right hand side of the reels you’ll find a multiplier table, starting as 1x and rising all the way up to 10x. Each additional win that is landed due to the ‘popping’ sees you move one rung up the table – achieve 10 wins and you’ll have a nice 10x multiplier applied!
On the reels you’ll find a great variety of fruits and vegetables, although these have eyes and blink a lot, which I can assure you is not normal. The pineapple is the highest paying symbol, worth 200 coins for the maximum five in a row. A tomato and a coconut come next and are followed by three different peppers, giving the slot its name. The standard symbols are completed by an onion and a garlic, these looking almost like twins! The wild symbol is a piñata donkey and will substitute for any other on the reels apart from the bonus symbol, this wild worth an impressive 500 coins for hitting a full house of 5.
Paco and the Popping Peppers Feature
The bonus symbol is a Tiki style hut and you’ll enter the feature when you can land three or more of these anywhere on the reels. You’ll now be taken to a beach scene where you’ll find Paco standing next to a board showing a playing card. Your aim is to guess whether the next card will be higher or lower. Each time you get it wrong will see you receive a strike, and yep you’ve got it, three strikes and you are out! The longer you last during the feature will see you win a larger reward.
Design and Setup
Like many of the BetSoft range, this slot is a visual treat. The opening sequence sets the tone nicely, and the excellent animation continues on the reels, the hyperactive Paco always on the move to the left of the reels, who, amongst other things, will pick up his guitar have a quick snore-laden sleep. The graphics are very colorful and the slot has great character throughout, while all the while an up-tempo Mexican guitar tune plays along, really adding to the atmosphere of the slot.
This slot follows the very popular 5×3 configuration and has a maximum of 30 pay lines. This number of lines can be changed to any number between 1 and 30, while you’ll also choose the bet per line, between 1 and 5 (the max bet spin button which is situated on the top of a guitar will automatically set this to 5). Your final choice is the coin value, ranging from just 2c per line, all the way through to 50c.
The autoplay option is found at the top of the screen so you may not spot it at first and this option will see you choose the number of lines, the coin value, the bet per line and the number of spins, before watching the action unfold automatically. You’ll also find a mute button which you can use to toggle the sound on and off.
Slots with the ‘tumbling reels’ or ‘freefall’ feature are all highly playable, as you never know when a huge multiple win is just around the corner and this becomes even more exciting when the multiplier increases as the wins come piling in. However, the standout graphics and the perfect sound track make this much more than a standard freefall slot and this is only added to by the quirky and fun bonus feature. You may not be able to say it quickly, but Paco and the Popping Peppers is a must play slot from BetSoft.
