Legends of the Pharaohs Slots Machine

Available In:

If you have been around casino slots for any time at all, you’ll know that Ancient Egypt is a very popular theme. Well, Scientific Games have added to this list with the release of Legends of the Pharaohs. This comes under the Barcrest brand, SG also own Bally and WMS. You’ll find a colorful 20-line video slot, which has a lot of interesting bonus games nested within the free spins bonus round. In line with several Barcrest titles like Ooh Aah Dracula, you can opt for ‘Big Bet’ play for some extra perks!

Base Game and Setup of Legends of the Pharaohs

Having only 20 win lines feels on the smaller side these days, though it did not adversely affect the game play for me. The grid of the reels is 5 wide by 3 symbols tall. You can spin for just 1c per line, all the way up to $500 per spin ($25 per line). The big bets charge a fixed rate for 5 spins, more on that below.

Most of the symbols will be instantly familiar to anyone that has enjoyed the casino slots based on Ancient Egypt such as IGT’s Cleopatra. There is a scarab beetle, ankh, the eye of Ra and a god with a bird’s head. The highest paying symbol is the slot logo, which is drawn over a night time view of a giant pyramid. This will pay 100x your spin amount for 5 of a kind.

Standard playing card symbols are in play. These are surrounded by a gold border, which includes sparkles.

The famous pyramids appear, in gold circles. These are scatter symbols, and will trigger the free spins bonus game.

Big Bet Play

Beside the regular spin button, which is in the middle underneath the reels is a purple button which says ‘BB’, along with an arrow. This is to use the ‘Big Bet’ option. When you click it a new screen appears, with 4 different choices – you’ll also get some dramatic themed music.

All the options are multiples of your current total bet for 5 spins. These range from 20x through to 50x. Choosing this option has some advantages. The main one is that all the big bet spins require that you hit 3 of the scatter symbols at any time during the 5 spins to trigger the free spins bonus. Usually you need to hit 3 at the same time, so this is a big difference. As you move up from 20 to 30, 40 and 50, you will also add new bonuses when you get the 3 scatters. These range from the regular Pharaoh’s bonus through the super and then the Mega.

When you complete each set of 5 big bets, the screen with the choices comes back. If you want to return to the regular spins, you can click the button on the bottom left of this screen.

Free Spins with Many Special Bonuses

If you hit the free spins with 3 of the scatter symbols, a special bonus option will be chosen at random to go with your 10 spins. If you win with either 4 or 5 of these, then you get to pick from 2 or 3 different bonuses. This machine will highlight the bonus game with the best overall return, though that might not be the biggest win on this occasion.

The special bonuses include a mega-symbol. This is chosen at random, and will fill the middle 3 reels, it can land partially or fully on the reels. This symbol has the potential to enable a lot of wins on the same spin. You can also get wild reels (at random), or disappearing symbols, where the lowest paying symbols are progressively removed from the reels – leaving proportionally more higher payers. There is also a bonus where different symbols become wild (with their prize growing to the maximum).

Blue and Gold Design

A lot of the graphic elements are very much standard Egypt slot fare. This includes columns with hieroglyphics, the walls of a tomb around the reels, and the traditional statues. There is a good level of detail in the symbols, with the bird headed god particularly standing out.

Music ranges from soft and whistling, though to dramatic pounding drums.

Does Legends of the Pharaoh’s Do Enough to Stand Out?

There is not a lot to this slot, unless you trigger a bonus game fairly quickly – then you’ll miss all the bonus features entirely. The big bet option does help you to trigger those bonuses a lot more regularly. This has a cost, though moving the size of your coins down should bring this to within the bankroll of most players. If you like some extra volatility then you can spin for 10x the unit bet and give yourself a shot at the Mega Pharaoh’s bonus!
