Double Dragon Slot Machine
This is a classic Asian slot in every sense of the word. The graphics are professionally crafted, the game-play (as you’d expect from Bally) is first class – and you have the chance of a big windfall too. There are some unusual characteristics in this slot. First wins can go in either direction – and not just the standard left to right. Second, there is an expanding wild in play, which will cover entire reels. This is followed by a respin each time. Like many of the Bally slots you will find online, this game stared off in live casinos.
The golden Double Dragon logo at the top of the reels is the first clue that this is a top quality game This is gold, with the two dragons either side of a yin / yang symbol in the middle. There is a light effect which goes from one side to the other, highlighting each letter in turn.
By contrast the background of the reels is plain; this looks like the parchment of an ancient scroll. You will see the common Asian slot symbols including a fan, ingot, gold coins with holes in them, golden carp and lotus flower. There are no playing card symbols used in this game. Animations on the reels are nicely done. These include the expanding wilds, and message showing you have a respin afterwards (which has a dragon’s head each side).
Playing Double Dragon
One thing you will never need to do when playing Bally slots is decide how many win-lines to play. The reason is that these are fixed in place for each game, 25 for Double Dragon. You can choose from a wide range of coin sizes for per spin, ranging from 1c (25c per spin) all the way to $20 per line for an incredible $500 per spin. You can also set up auto-play for up to 25 spins. Since this game is available online, you have the option to play for real money or with play chips.
Win lines go both ways, meaning you will hit a lot more than in equivalent slots. It takes a little getting used to when the wins come from right to left – though the animated wavy lines do show your wins right after each spin.
Wins come in clusters, thanks to the expanding wild function – and so might appear a little small on when you first see the pay table. Wild symbols and Golden Carp win you 10x your bet for 5, with the ingot, jade and golden coins coming next.
All the action is cantered around the wild symbol, which is the double dragon logo. When this lands on any reel you will see an animation, and the symbol will expand to cover the entire reel. Wins are then calculated from both sides of the reels. Next a different Double Dragon logo appears, this is a ‘Respin’ sign, which comes along with the sound of a gong. The wild reel remains locked in place, and the remaining 4 reels spin again. New wins are calculated, though the most lucrative part of this game occurs when you hit another wild. This also covers a reel, and a second respin occurs. One more wild means a 3rd and then a 4th. If you are lucky enough, the entire grid can be covered in wilds, bringing a welcome windfall.
Summary of Double Dragon
I have not played a better Asian slot with no break out features from any slot software house. The attention to detail in the graphics, characteristically smooth Bally game-play and chance of hitting a big win with wild reels all add up to make for an exceptional slot. The both-ways wins took me a little while to tune in to, though this does tie in well with the ‘Double’ part of the name. It is the wild reels + respins which really bring this game to life. 2 or more entirely wild reels, along with wins from both directions mean a lot of wins will accumulate.
