Free Aloha Island Slots
This lively Hawaii themed slot is the perfect antidote to the darker and more serious themes which are often used for the games. Your game will be hosted by a Norwegian Blue (parrot) on top of the reels. Unlike the Monty Python version, this one is very much alive, and will blink and move while you play. You’ll be treated to some cheerful slide guitar music too, which does get interrupted by the electronic winning sounds a lot of the time. One unusual feature of this Bally slot game is that you get an entirely wild reel every time you spin. This is chosen at random at the start of each spin, with the first 2 reels the optimal place as far as accumulating wins are concerned.
Aloha Island is no work of art, the symbols are colorful though plain, and the background a patterned beige. One nice touch is the animation when symbols are involved in win lines. Instead of just the usual coloured lines showing the winning combos, the wins also get pink flower garlands. You’ll find colourful tropical fish, a clam shell (complete with pearl), a conch and a traditional wooden sailing boat on the reels. There is also an explosion of flowers when you enter and exit the free spins bonus game.
Playing Aloha Island
5 of the wild symbols (a logo saying Aloha Wild) will pay 100x your total stake. These symbols do come stacked, with an entire reel wild each time, as well as individually on the reels. Sometimes you will get lucky combinations of many wins covering different win lines. The parrot comes next on the prizes list, this one is worth 20x your total bet for 5 (all symbols pay from 3+ on the reels). The boat and then the different fish follow this.
If you hit 3+ of the island scene with ‘free games’ two things will happen. First you get a scatter win; this is 10x for 4 and 5x your total stake for 3. Second, you get to play the free spins bonus game.
Bonus Game for Aloha Island
I will admit to being a little disappointed the first time that ‘5 free games’ came up on the screen. This is low by the standards of most slots, and I had waited a while to get there. Fortunately, there is a little more to it than just 5 spins.
First you go to a new set of reels with a darker background and a count-down on top of the reels. The spins then cycle through (complete with cheerful music) and your wins accumulate as you go. The twist in this game is that you get an extra free spin every time you see one of the bonus icons anywhere on the reels. These were reasonably frequent for me, turning the 5 starting spins into 12 or 13 each time. In addition, you will keep the wild reel system from the main game – giving you a shot at adding up some decent wins.
After the bonus spins end, the screen fills with flowers again, and you’ll find yourself back in the main game.
Summary of Aloha Island
It is hard to say a slot is ‘pleasant’ without it sounding like a bit of an insult. In this case I think that the label is the right one. Everything about this slot is nice, without being exceptional. Only the Bally game-play (developed over decades in the live slots arena) stands out. Graphics are bright and cheerful, without being amazing. The wild reels add an element of interest to the play – without being anything too exciting. Finally the free spins round has the chance of extra spins – though not too many at once! If you enjoy solid though unexceptional live slots which have been transitioned online, then this could be the right game for you.
