Catwalk Slot from Ash Gaming
If there is one thing that slot software makers love, it is to play on words in their titles. This slot uses the ‘Catwalk’ of the modelling world – and (you guessed it) populates it with felines.
These are cartoon cats, and are accompanied on the reels by bling and clothing. The main feature takes you to a boutique, where you get to choose up to 5 gifts for cash prizes. There is also an expanding wild symbol, which shows the Empire State building.
Purr-fect Setup of the Catwalk Slot Game
There are a lot of different symbols appearing on the 5 by 4 grid of the reels. There are also a lot of win-lines – with 100 crossing from the left. You can bet from 1c per line and up.
Winning symbols on Catwalk come in 3 different categories. These are the cats (who are also models), their accessories and some clothes on tailor’s dummies. To stop things looking too crowded on the reels, these are color-coded. The cats have an orange background, the accessories blue and the clothes are backed with plain black.
The white cat with blonde hair is the single biggest paying symbol. She is worth 500 coins for 5 of a kind, 200 for 4 and 60 for just three. A tabby cat with a green hat comes next (300 coins for 5), followed by a cat with a blue parasol (200) and one with a big pink hat (100). Accessories include high heeled shoes, a diamond ring and shades.
Expanding Wild Symbols
Empire State building wilds can appear on any reel. These will substitute for any of the regular symbols (though as usual not the bonus symbols). If you get 2 of these on a single reel, you will see an animation where it grows to cover all 4 of the rows on its reel. This will sometimes create multiple winning combinations – especially those times you are lucky enough to get it combined with other (single) wild symbols.
Boutique Bonus Scatter Symbols
You can’t miss the bonus symbols for 2 reasons. First, 3 or more of these boxes with pink ribbons will trigger the second screen bonus game. Second, each time one of them lands on the reels, you will hear a very cute ‘meow!’.
When the bonus is triggered you get a view from inside a shop window – presumably an upscale boutique in New York. Ahead of you are a lot of different boxes with different sizes, colors and ribbons. Your task is simply to pick between 3 and 5 of them – depending on how many bonus symbols you got with the triggering spin. You will win cash prizes for each one you open.
The ranges of money you can win will also depend on the number of scatters which triggered this bonus. If you hit 5 of them, you will win between 500x and 2000x your bet, with 24 to 60x the range for 4 and 3 to 30x for 3.
Madison Avenue Catwalk Design
Around the reels you will see a drawing of some of the New York skyline. This includes a sign for Madison Avenue. The above the reels is a pink awning from a shop, with the elaborate Catwalk logo – complete with a pair of pink high heeled shoes. One small negative is that the win-line number markers are crowded either side of the reels, detracting from the scene a little.
On the reels there are a lot of colors. The cats are the stand out symbols, and each one has been designed to give you an idea of the kind of lady she is – ranging from cute to dainty. I like the idea of giving the types of symbol different background colors. This helps you spot wins from what is otherwise a complex scene. The use of clothes, rather than playing card symbols for the lower paying symbols also works well.
There is an ambient soundtrack playing. Unlike the casino sounds used by Aristocrat slots, this is an outside city babble. It comes complete with card noises, people walking and chatter. When you spin the reels you will get lounge / jazz music – along with those meows.
The only animation of note comes via the expanding wilds. The Empire State Building grows, and fireworks come from the top of it. Wins are made by flashes and lines between the symbols involved.
Should You Strut Your Stuff to the Catwalk Slot?
While there is not a whole lot going on, this is an enjoyable and somewhat ‘cute’ game. Cats are always popular – with slots including OMG! Kittens and Kitty Glitter are both casino favorites. Whether catwalk matches them I am not sure. It certainly has some entertainment value to go with that big win potential via the boutique bonus round.
