Wild Gambler Arctic Adventure Slot
This is a follow up of the very successful original Wild Gambler slot from Ash Gaming. A lot of the same ideas are included in the Arctic Adventure version. These include the ability to buy wild symbols, and configure these in any way you wish (assuming your bankroll is big enough!). The setting is the frozen poles – with Polar bears, penguins and arctic foxes on the reels. In a new development, wilds in Wild Gambler Arctic Adventure can have multipliers. The highlight of this game is a free spins round, where any wilds that land become frozen into place on the reels.
Cool Configurable Setup of the Arctic Adventure Slot
The base setup is straightforward, though you will have a big choice of configuration options when it comes to locking wilds. I have started with the base game here, and will cover those wilds in the next section.
You’ll find a 5×3 grid, with 20 win-lines, the nature of this game means that the number of win-lines is not changeable. You set your line bet from 1/100th of a cent and up. Yep, 1% of penny (or 20% of a cent for all the lines) is the smallest bet. This makes sense when you see how much of the reels you can cover in wilds – those tiny line bets can grow into big amounts for each spin.
There are two start buttons;
- Once says ‘spin’
- The other says ‘lock n spin’
If you click the spin button, this game acts like any other slot – with all 5 reels spinning and coming to a stop – with winning combinations being worked out after that. Those winning combos are topped by the polar bear, which is also the wild symbol. 5 of these on a line will get you 1000x your line bet amount. There are no prizes for fewer than 5, as the substitution for the other symbols kicks in here. You’ll instead get the biggest possible win with the 5th symbol.
Other higher paying symbols include the walrus, worth 800 coins for 5 of a kind, the moose (500), arctic fox (400) and penguin (300). Playing card symbols, which have been carved from blocks of ice and covered in snow make up the smaller paying symbols.
Locking Wilds – Your Choice of How to Play
What made the original Wild Gambler slot a hit was the unique way in which you can choose wild symbols at the start of your spins. If you click on any symbol, it will turn wild (and show on the screen as frozen, with a polar bear in it). This is not for free, the price of your spin will increase. This is shown above the ‘lock and spin’ start button.
The price you pay (as a multiple of your regular bet amount) depends on how many wilds you select and where they are on the screen. For example, based on a $1 base spin (5c per line). Making a single symbol wild on the bottom right corner will increase your spin amount to $1.09c. If instead you choose the top left hand corner as your wild, this would be $3.06c per spin. Both of these together are $3.23c.
You can add multipliers to any of these wilds by clicking again on the up arrow (or down) which appears. Wilds can have multipliers of up to 5x.
Covering a lot of the screen with these 5x wilds would make your bet amount 100’s of times the original stake. The fact that you can bet for 1% of 1c per line now makes sense!
If you choose, you can make the locking wilds and increasing spin amounts automatic, using the ‘options’ tab at the top left of the screen.
Free Spins with Even More Locking Wilds
Green free spins logos appear on all of the reels, these will trigger the free spins bonus game with 3 or more anywhere in view. You get 7, 12 or 20 spins for 3, 4 or 5 of these.
During the free spins, any wilds which hit the screen will lock into place for the remainder of the feature. If you get 2 in the same place, these get a 2x multiplier – with 5x the maximum possible. If you were using the lock and spin game when you triggered the free spins, then the setup of locked wilds you had on that spin will stay in place for the bonus game.
Icy Design of Wild Gambler Arctic Adventure
Even though the settings are completely different, the overall character of the design for this slot and the original Wild Gambler feel very similar. You’ll find the animals are all cartoons, and have their own sound effects and animations when they win. They manage to feel endearing and ferocious at the same time!
The ice effects for the locking wilds are very good. Small details like the ice block playing card symbols cap a very well-produced game. There is tinkling icy music while you spin, which gets more intense as you add locking wilds to the reel.
Should You Chill Out with Arctic Adventure?
If you are one of the millions of people who enjoyed the original Arctic Adventure slot, then this newer version is a must play. The main change is the setting, going from Africa to the poles. The locking wilds concept has been boosted by allowing multipliers – these let you cover a lot of the reels, and lock in some line wins. If you are lucky enough to hit the free spins while you have a lot of locked and multiplied wilds – you could be looking at a big payday!
