Pelican Pete Slots Machine

I’m not to cast dispersions on somebody’s character, but the moment I first played this slot, I got the impression that Pelican Pete was a little greedy. It’s not that he is overweight; in fact you cannot see his body at all. It’s not even that he eats a lot, as not once during play do you see him eat. But it might be the fact that he has crammed as many gold coins in his beak as he possibly could, so much so that they are spilling from his mouth to the floor.

Pelican Pete is joined on the reels by a number of sea based symbols, including a leaping fish, an anchor, a starfish, a lighthouse and one symbol that will certainly appeal to Pete – a treasure chest.

How to Win on the Pelican Pete Slot

Standard wins at Pelican Pete in the base game come when you can hit three consecutive symbols from left to right on a win line. The sun on the horizon symbol is the top paying one, worth 100 coins when hitting five in a row. This symbol is stacked on all of the reels, so when you do gain a win with it, there is every chance that you may gain multiple wins. The fish and the treasure both pay 75 coins for hitting five in a row and join the sun symbol in also offering a small win when hitting just 2 in a row. The standard symbols on the reels are completed by the anchor, the starfish and the playing card characters from 9 to Ace.

Pelican Pete himself is the wild symbol and appears on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 only. As the wild he will substitute for any other symbol apart from the bonus one and therefore bring many additional wins, which might account for all of the gold coins emerging from his beak!

Every time you win you’ll have the option of taking a gamble. You’ll be presented with a face down playing card and you’ll double your win if you can correctly predict the color. The more adventurous amongst you might want to choose the correct suit to multiply your win amount by 4. Of course, should you predict incorrectly, your win amount is now lost.

The final symbol is the lighthouse. This only appears on reel 1, 2 and 3 and when it does indeed land on all three you’ll enter the free spins bonus feature. You’ll have 10 free games, but these free spins have a nice added advantage in the fact that every wild that lands will become sticky, therefore remaining in place until the feature is over. The free spins can be re-triggered, but only once with 5 added spins.

How the Pelican Pete Slot Works

Pelican Pete is a slightly larger slot than standard, with each of the reels showing four symbols as opposed to the usual three. This makes for a greater number of win lines with 50. These 50 are set as the default number; however you can choose to play any number between 1 and 50. You’ll also choose the coin amount, ranging from a minimal 1c per line, ranging all the way up to $10 per line.

Attached to the spin button you’ll find an ‘auto’ panel, where you can set the slot to play 5, 10, 15 or 25 spins without interruption. This isn’t the most straightforward autoplay option, as it requires 5 clicks of the mouse to set 25 spins running, when it would be so easy to offer a 1 or 2 click option.

The backdrop to the slot shows the sea disappearing into the horizon. The slot is set at sunset and the evening sky has a purple hue, which reflects off the sea. The symbols are colorful but a little basic and the slot suffers some for the lack of animation on the reels (only Pelican Pete comes to life when forming part of a win line) – in comparison to some of the more modern looking slots, Pelican Pete is a little lacking. The accompanying sound is somewhat generic too, where a sea based soundtrack would improve the overall experience a little.

Pelican Pete Slot Conclusion

Pelican Pete is a very straightforward slot. The gameplay is much like any other slot and the feature round, although entertaining, is not particularly different. The sound and visuals could also be improved upon too. However, it is clear that Aristocrat has tried to inject a little bit of humor into the game and with 50 win lines and a gamble option, there is enough to keep you interested.
