Green Lantern Slot from Amaya
If you are expecting a lavish slot based on the recent Green Lantern movie, well you’ll have to wait. This is an entertaining game from Amaya, which has a decidedly comic-book feel to it – based on the original Green Lantern comic strip from DC Comics.
There are some great reasons to check this game out. First there is a free spins round with 24 free spins and an ever-increasing number of wilds. You can also activate a second feature, which is a duel between the Green Lantern and his enemy Sinestro. There are also some nice sized wins from regular play across the 50 win-lines of this slot.
How to Win on the Green Lantern Slot
The regular symbol with the biggest prize is a classic bad guy, even his hair line looks slightly demonic. If you trigger a 10,000 coin prize for lining up 5 on a win line then it is you who will be wearing the same grin as you’ll see on this symbol. This is the biggest prize by some way, with 1000 coins for 4, 100 for 3 and 10 coins for just 2 from the left. Another character from the comic, this time a blue guy is the next best paying symbol, worth a top prize of 2000 coins for 5 on a win line. A triangle with a fist and the Green Lantern guy in flight make up the original symbol – clocking in at 500 coins for 5 and paying from 3 and up. Playing card symbols ace down to nine make up the smaller wins.
Green Lantern does have his own symbol, though this only appears on the 2nd and 4th reels. This symbol is wild, and stacked (comes in groups), meaning you’ll sometimes get entire reels covered in just the one symbol. Green Lantern substitutes for all of the other symbols except the scattered rings to make more wins. As an extra, any wins created using wilds are doubled compared to what is on the pay table.
There are two green rings in play. One with a green frame and the other with a purple frame. These are scatter symbols, which means they are not tied to any of the win-lines. If you get 5 anywhere in view, this is worth 100 times your total bet, 4 are worth 15x, 3 are worth 4x and 2 are worth 2x. In addition, 3 of the purple rings will trigger the special (optional) bonus game.
Green Lantern Slot Bonus Games
Both games have unique features, and with the free spins game the way this is triggered is also unique. To start the 24 free spins you need to have a wild on reels 2 and 4, with a special battery symbol in between them on reel 3.
When this happens you will hear intensive heavy metal guitar music, and your spins will quickly play through. Every win which involves a wild has a 4x multiplier during this bonus game. What is more, you add more and more wilds to reels 2 and 4 as the game progresses. Each time the battery appears on reel 2 it adds 2 new wilds. This increases the chances you’ll hit wilds as the bonus continues.
The other bonus game is optional. There is a button to the right hand side below the reels which says ‘Bonus Bet’. When you click this you spend 10 more coins per spin (from 50 to 60), and give yourself a shot at the dual bonus. When you hit 3 purple rings, 2 figures appear in front of the reels. One is the Green Lantern and the other Sinestro. Beams of light then come from each and meet in the middle, moving to and fro along with a multiplier which keeps changing. If you lose the battle then you win that multiplier times your total bet. If you win then your multiplier will be much higher.
Design and Setup
This slot does look a little older than many superhero type games I have played. Much more in the comic book style (like Amaya’s Superman). The reels have a white background, and there are indistinguishable splashes of color around the frame. Some animations on the reels are well done – particularly when you win with the wilds. These also show their age a little, which is not really helped by the basic ‘dual’ round animation. There are some crashes and music for different parts of the game too.
Green Lantern uses a 50 line format over a 5 reel, 4 row grid. You can lower the number of lines – though I recommend staying with 50 as this maximizes benefits from the stacked wilds. You can bet from 2x per line, or $1 a spin without the bonus bet ($1.20c with). An auto-play option is also offered.
I enjoyed this game and will come back for another spin. While the graphics are not up to the same standard as (for example) the Marvel superhero slots from PlayTech, this is a solid and playable slot with some interesting bonuses. The dual bonus is quick and easy, and can land you some nice wins. Free spins are much longer, and with all wild wins 4x the pay table amounts – this is where the bigger payouts will come from in this game.
