Emerald Isle Slot from Amaya
The luck of the Irish and trying your luck on an online slot machine has been a natural match since the earliest casinos. Emerald Isle from Amaya is an early example of a 5 reel video slot. While it does not match the graphics and speedy game-play of more up to date titles, this game does have a certain amount of (Irish) charm.
There are two separate bonus games, one of which can go on for several rounds and the other a free spins game. You will also find wilds, scatters and a very respectable top payout from regular play.
How to Win on Emerald Isle
You’ll find all of the Irish clichés on the reels, though the one you’ll want to see the most of is the leprechaun. This has a dancing type animation when you win with it, which includes colored magical trails coming from his fingers. Leprechauns have 3 functions on this slot. First they are the highest paying symbol, worth 6000 coins for 5 on one of the 20 win lines (1000 for 4, 170 for 3 10 for just 2and a consolation prize of 15 for just 1 in the left hand reel). Second, this is the wild symbol, which substitutes regularly for the other regular (not scatter) symbols to create extra wins. Finally, the leprechaun will trigger the second screen bonus game when appearing on both reels 1 and 5 at the same time.
The next highest prizes come from the red haired lady, which is worth 1500 coins for 5, 500 for 4, 60 for 3 and 4 coins for 4. The other unique symbols are the pot of gold and the 4-leaf clover, each of these pay 500 coins for 5 and again pay all the way down to 2 on a line. There are 6 playing card symbols making up the smaller wins, these have not been designed to fit in with the Irish theme though.
A mountain view with a rainbow is the scatter symbol. These are slightly unusual scatters in that they need to appear consecutively from the left hand reel to count. 3 or more of these will trigger a free spins bonus game, while the maximum 5 will get you 100x your total bet amount for the winning spin. You will get 10x for 4 and 5x for 3 – with 2x your bet for just 2 from the left.
Emerald Isle Bonus Features
When you get the Leprechaun on reels 1 and 5 you go to a unique break out bonus game which gives you 3 rounds of matching symbols to accumulate some prizes. You see a 2 by 3 wooden grid, with 6 squares to choose from. You then click the squares, which reveal one of the main symbols from the reels. You keep clicking until you hit 3 the same each time, at which point you are awarded a cash prize. The implication is that you win a bigger prize if you hit 3 identical symbols in fewer clicks. You get 3 rounds of this game – while a lively Irish jig plays in the background.
Landing 3 of the rainbow scatter symbols starts the free spins game. This starts right away, with no pop-up or new graphics. You can see a countdown of your remaining free spins immediately below the reels, along with a new box which shows the total won. You get 10 free spins to start off with, and can retrigger these with 3+ rainbows during play.
Design and Setup of Emerald Isle
This slot will certainly not be winning any design awards! While it is smart and clear, the graphics look at least 10 years old, and the slightly slower than normal game-play also gives the game a retro feel. The leprechaun is the most striking symbol, especially when he comes to life after a win. The classic Irish red-head is also strikingly drawn. Overall the slot is let down by the number of plain playing card symbols and by the wooden planks as a background. The only nod to Ireland on the initial screen is some grass behind the blocky control buttons.
Like most Amaya slots, this game is quiet between spins. You get little bursts of music when you hit wins in regular play – and a fully-fledged jig playing when you hit the bonus game. Most of the beeps and whirrs which accompany the jig are straight from the Amaya sound library which is shared with 100+ other slots.
The default is 20 win-lines, though this can be changed to suit. You can also change your coin size from 1c and up, bet max or use a configurable auto-play option.
This slot sits firmly in the ‘solid, not spectacular’ category. The graphics are fairly dated, and the bonus games are simple too. You will find the occasional bigger win (6000 coins for lining up the leprechauns) and the chance of picking up even more coins from the 3 round second screen bonus game.
