Full Paddy Casino Video Poker Review

Established in 2005, licensed out of the Isle of Man & Ireland, Paddy Power is an online gaming site featuring multiple gambling options, from poker to table gaming to video poker and other casino titles. Using auditing service Technical Systems Testing, and operating on the Playtech network, Paddy Power is a good choice for video poker fans who like lots of financial options and bonus and promotional programs.

Games at Paddy Power

If you like variety in your video machine play, Paddy Power may not be the site for you. As of this writing, only 11 video poker titles are available:

  • Jokers Wild
  • Lucky Draw Jacks or Better
  • Deuces Wild Video Poker
  • Jacks or Better Video Poker
  • All American Video Poker
  • Ten Play Jacks or Better
  • Lucky Draw Bonus
  • Lucky Draw Joker Poker
  • Ten Play Bonus Poker
  • Ten Play Joker Poker
  • Party Casino Video Poker

It’s also a bit disappointing that multi-hand variants aren’t all that common—there are a couple of games that allow you to play 5 or 10 hands at once, but for the most part, video poker at Paddy Power is a single-hand game.

It may be a bit unfair to criticize the site for having “only 11 video poker” titles—after all, plenty of well-established gaming sites have less than six total video poker machines. But true variety means having variations of poker machines that allow multi-hand betting, rule changes, and even unique titles, none of which you’ll find at Paddy Power. So yes, the site should have a few more variations, but you could do far worse than eleven variations.

Bonuses & Promotions at Paddy Power

As of this writing, our favorite bonus option is the Paddy Power referral bonus, good for up to $250 if you and your referred player meet certain requirements. Their standard deposit and match bonus is worth 200% up to $2,000, though video poker players beware—not all video poker games count 100% towards clearing bonus cash.

Benefits of Playing at Paddy Power

So why should video poker players consider Paddy Power? The multiple methods of depositing and withdrawing funds, the well-known and powerful Playtech software, and the regularly-rotated lineup of bonuses and promotions should be enough for anyone to find some aspect of the site that appeals to them. The video machine game variety is small, and you can’t find many multi-hand video poker titles, but if you like having lots of cashier options and you’re a bonus-chaser, Paddy Power may be ideal for you.

Sites that run Playtech software are known to be trustworthy and have good game variety; outside of the small number of video poker titles. If you’re the kind of online gambler that wants to mix up his poker machine play with table games, head-to-head poker, and possibly online slot games, Paddy Power would make a nice home for your casino bankroll.

Playtech Software & Paddy Power

As the name implies, Paddy Power is all about the Luck of the Irish. Paddy Power video poker games run on the popular Playtech software platform, which may not offer the best graphics in the industry, but the site and the software has a top-notch reputation for security and player stability.

The casino software design company Playtech opened for business in the year 2000. Online gaming was starting to boom, and Playtech was one of a large number of companies trying to get a piece of the action. Playtech outlasted much of their competition and became one of the best-known names in online casino software. Playtech casinos get high marks for being user-friendly and for the design of their slot games, poker options, and bingo titles, though they aren’t known for their amazing video poker titles.  Playtech is excellent at keeping up with the latest trends in online gaming, including live dealer games and 3D graphics. Playtech is even moving back intotraditional gambling, releasing kiosk-style gambling titles for play at land-based casinos.

Unfortunately for this company, their online casinos took a hit when the US government passed the UIGEA bill in 2006, forcing the designer’s affiliated casinos to stop doing business with American customers. It was an especially dark time for Playtech because the company had just released an IPO in 2005 on the London exchange. This untimely IPO release was meant to give the company even more clout in the industry and to raise cash for their new ideas for online and kiosk-based gambling. Playtech then went on a spree of acquiring smaller design companies, raising their profile even further.

When the American government passed the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act in 2006, Playtech lost their access to the American gambling market. Playtech was not asked by the US government to stop doing business there, but the company chose to exit to protect against future legal troubles. They stopped accepting US wagers and started concentrating on the European and Asian markets. That means if you’re an American, you won’t be able to participate in video poker action at Paddy Power, at least not for the time being. With legislation currently under way that may regulate online gaming across the country, Paddy Power could soon re-open to US video poker fans.
