Game of the Week – T-Rex II
T-Rex II is the latest progressive jackpot slot game from Real Time Gaming. It is a follow up to the popular T-Rex slot game and features lucrative pay symbols, multiple bonus features, and two progressive jackpots.
Fans of dinosaur slot games may like this one but we felt somewhat meh about this game. Learn more about the game in our review.
Follow Up to Original T-Rex Slot Game
T-Rex II is a 5-Reel, 25-Payline video slot game from RTG. The game’s setting looks like some type of jungle or maybe a ripoff of Jurassic Park. The background music is somewhat cliche and seems like something you’d hear in most dinosaur movies, including Jurassic Park.
Outside of the T-Rex, the animation is somewhat simple, so don’t expect to be dazzled by the game.
Lucrative Pay Symbols
The payouts on this game are what you’d expect from an RTG slot game. Your lower-paying Royals are only going to be profitable when four or more are hit on a line. However, 5 of a kind pays out a bit better than some of their games.
The primary pay symbols consist of a prehistoric plan, a raptor, suchominus , and a triceratops. The dinosaurs pay when two or more hit a payline.
The T-Rex is the game’s wild and only appears on Reel 1 during the standard game. A hatching egg is the scatter symbol but does not pay.
T-Rex Terror Wilds
During the game, when the T-Rex appears on Reel 1, the T-Rex Terror Wilds feature can trigger at random. When triggered, any of the other dinosaurs may be eaten and replaced with a T-Rex. Payouts are then awarded.
While random, we did see that this feature seems to kick in a bit more often than some of the other random features on other RTG games. However, we only averaged one or two additional wilds on those spins.
Free Games Feature
If three or more scatter symbols appear on your screen, you will unlock the free games feature. You will get 10, 20, or 100 free spins based on 3, 4, or 5 symbols on board. There are no additional multipliers or features during the game.
However, the T-Rex Terror Wilds can trigger during the game and does seem to trigger more often. Also, the free spins are retriggerable.
We were able to hit the bonus and was awarded 10 free spins. The T-Rex Terror Wilds feature triggered in about half of the spins and we ended up with a big win of 63x our initial bet.
Two Progressive Jackpots
T-Rex II has two progressive jackpots that can trigger after any spin. There are no qualifications for the jackpots, so any player at any stakes can win.
The Minor jackpot is very small and was only about $40 when we tested the game. We won more than that in the bonus game.
The Major jackpot was a bit better, but still only in the $300 range. However, this is still a nice win for those of you that play at smaller stakes.
Higher Variance Slot That’s Somewhat Unimpressive
Sequels to popular hit movies are seldom as good at the original and that appears to be the case with T-Rex II. The game is a decent adaptation of a classic dinosaur theme, but there’s nothing really special or unique about the game.
Also, from playing the game, it seems to be more in the Medium to High variance category. Outside of our big win in the bonus game, we didn’t get too many notable wins. For those that are only concerned about larger payouts, this game is great.
Otherwise, this game came across as largely unimpressive. It’s not horrible, but it isn’t all that great either. We classify this one merely as “meh.”
