How to Play Vegas Three Card Rummy

Three Card Rummy, also known as Vegas Three Card Rummy, is a popular online casino table game at online casinos around the world. On the surface, the game looks a lot like Three Card Poker, but it plays very differently.

Today, we will take a look at the basic rules for playing Three Card Rummy. If you know how to play Blackjack, then you will have no problem picking up this game.

Rules for Playing Three Card Rummy

Three Card Rummy is a simple game to learn and has elements similar to Blackjack. However, instead of securing a hand that beats the dealer, the object of the game is to score fewer points than the dealer.

The first thing you need to learn are the point values of cards. Below is a quick chart on card point values:

  • Ace – 1 point
  • 2 Through 9 – Face value
  • 10 through King – 10 points

Standard flushes do not count in this game.

If you are dealt a pair or three of a kind, your hand is worth zero points. If you have a two or three-card run, meaning two or three consecutive cards of the same suit, that run is worth zero points.

For example, if you are dealt a pair of queens and a six, your hand is worth six points. That’s zero points for the queens and six points for the six. If you are dealt an ace and deuce of clubs and a three of spades, your hand is worth three points.

Playing a Hand of Three Card Rummy

Prior to receiving cards, you must place an Ante bet. This is similar to what you’ll do in Three Card Poker. After placing your bet, you and the dealer will receive three cards.

Now you have to decide whether to play your hand or fold. If you play your hand, you will place a Raise bet equal to your ante bet on the table. After placing your bet, the dealer will reveal his hand.

Similar to Three Card Poker, the dealer must qualify for his hand to play. To qualify, the dealer must have 20 or fewer points. If the dealer does not qualify, your ante bet will pay even money and the raise bet will push.

If the dealer qualifies and wins, you will lose both your bets. When the dealer qualifies and win, your ante bet will pay even money and the Raise bet pays based on the number of points in your hand. The payouts are as follows:

  • Zero – 4 to 1
  • 1 to 5 Points – 2 to 1
  • 6 Points or More – Even Money

Note that some Three Card Rummy tables will offer a Bonus Bet. If you play this option, you will place your bet before receiving cards. If you hit the bonus bet, you will be paid based on the following paytable:

  • Suited A-2-3 – 100 to 1
  • 0 Points – 25 to 1
  • 1 to 6 Points – 2 to 1
  • 7 to 10 Points – Event Money
  • 11 or 12 Points – 4 to 1

All other point totals for the bonus bet loses. Note that this bonus bet has a house edge of about 3.46% While we don’t normally recommend playing the bonus bet, some of you may be OK playing this one since the edge is reasonable.

Three Card Rummy can be found at many online casinos around the world. Bovada and Ignition Casino offer the game as Vegas Three Card Rummy. It is the exact same game, but with a catchier name. It is a fun game that’s a nice alternative to online slots and roulette.
