“I am extremely proud of all our team members who are working to grant wishes for sick children across Canada. In the spirit of granting as many wishes as possible for children diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, I have issued a friendly challenge – the Gateway team that raises the most funds will win a CEO-hosted team dinner.”

Chris Kotsopoulos, the CEO of the Children’s Wish Foundation, thanked Gateway Casinos for their various contributions. Kotsopoulos said, “The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is excited to be partnering with Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited. Children’s Wish recently granted its 25,000th wish – a significant milestone for a 100% Canadian charity.”

How the Heroes Challenge Works
Each Gateway team participating in Heroes Challenge will be paired with a Wish Child. All of the funds raised by that Gateway team will go directly to support their child.
James is one of the children in the program. The six-year-old from Kamloops was born paralyzed from the waist down as a result of Neuroblastoma on his spine, which was diagnosed at birth. At only four days old, James began chemotherapy treatments and now suffers from severe physical impairments.
The GatewayGIVES program was created in hopes of building strong and healthy communities. They plan to offer not only their resources but also their know-how in order to support the Wish organization and other local charities and initiatives within the communities they are operating in.
Children’s Wish Foundation
The largest Canadian (and only all-Canadian) children’s foundation, the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is a wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children. The organization works with children between the ages of 3 and 17 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. The organization has granted wishes for more than 30 year.
With an average of three wishes granted a day and a “no waiting list” policy, the Children’s Wish Foundation has granted over 25,000 wishes for children and their families. As the Foundation grew, so did the number of those they positively impact. The foundation now not only serves those with life-threatening illnesses, but also serious neurological or genetic illnesses as well. Most wishes come from referrals to help a child and their family.
Each Canadian province has a Children’s Wish chapter offices and professional staff. Each family has their own dedicated Wish Coordinator assigned to them personally. They aim to make each wish personal and special for that child and the family alongside them so that it meets the needs of that individual.
The Wish Foundation works with Blue Cross insurance, so each family has worry-free travel. Travel wishes include all siblings that are 21 years old and under living in the same household.
