Bet365 Supplies Hard Rock Atlantic City’s Online Sportsbook

Hard Rock Atlantic City signed a deal with Bet365 to provide sportsbook services to the newly-opened Atlantic City casino. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement announced the partnership, along with temporary approval.

The DGE’s website showed that Hard Rock AC and Bet365 signed a letter of intent on June 19. David Rebuck, director of the Division of Gaming Enforcement, signed the correspondence on June 25, which provided temporary approval through July 31.

In the meantime, the DGE will conduct a review of the partnership to assure it meets regulatory standards in New Jersey.

The exact nature of the partnership is unknown at the moment. Bet365 is a consumer-facing platform, so it might use the Hard Rock Atlantic City license to operate as a “skin” of the main online gaming website. Bet365 might offer its own individually branded website, along with a sports betting app, to New Jersey sports bettors.

Bet365 Sports Betting App

Bet365 is a one-stop provider of all types of online gambling: casino games, poker, bingo, sports betting, and live/in-play betting. The site supports gaming in 19 different languages, including over a dozen European languages and Simplified Chinese.

Bet365 Sports includes a global overview of sporting events. Different sections for World Cup 2018, American football, Australian rules football, European football (soccer) tennis, baseball, basketball, horse racing, greyhounds, boxing/UFC, cricket, golf, and ice hockey exist. Cycling, lotto, and eSports all have their own section. Even darts and Gaelic sports are included.

The live/in-play betting app has sections for soccer, tennis, Australian rules, baseball, basketball, futsal, greyhounds, horse racing, table tennis, and volleyball. Players can create their own favorite sports list for up-to-the-minute betting choices. Bet365 includes “main markets” and “all markets” pages, while betting markets are updated in real time. Due to the wide range of betting markets, live bets from somewhere in the world are updates 24 hours a day.

Hard Rock Online Casino

Meanwhile, the Hard Rock Online Casino already has launched. The site has a “multi-game function”, which allows players to bet on up to 4 online slots at one time. Most of the online and mobile slots are supplied by Net Entertainment (NetEnt), the largest single provider of online slot machines in Europe.

Net Ent is famous for the advanced 3D cinematic graphics on its video slots, along with a variety of famous licensed slots and progressive jackpots. Hard Rock Online Casino should be a top competitor in the New Jersey gaming market over time, though its rivals have had a 5-year head start.

Hard Rock Atlantic City

Hard Rock Atlantic City had its grand opening on June 28. The casino is a renovated version of the Trump Taj Mahal, which closed in October 2016 during a labor dispute. Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, bought the casino from Carl Icahn in February 2017.

From then until May 2018, Hard Rock International invested $500 million in an expansion and renovation of the Trump Taj Mahal. The land-based gaming floor of the casino holds 2,400 slots and 130 table games.

The Hard Rock Atlantic City will stay true to its name. The casino-resort plans to have 200 concerts and live shows in the first calendar year of operation. The concert schedule should give hundreds of Atlantic City residents permanent jobs, if Hard Rock continues at that pace through the next few years.

Atlantic City Sports Betting

Atlantic City sports betting is possible due to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision to repeal the PASPA federal sports betting ban which encompassed 46 US states. The SCOTUS justices ruled that the US Congress can either legalize sports betting in 50 states or ban it in 50 states, but cannot legalize sportsbooks in some states and ban it in others.

Given the fact that four states successfully fought to have their sports betting laws grandfathered into the PASPA law 25 years ago, it is unlikely that a more divided US Congress would pass a 50-state ban in a time when several other states have legalized sports betting. All parties have proceeded like legal sports betting is here to stay.

The opportunity to open a legal land-based sportsbook is a huge boon for Hard Rock International, though that might have been part of the reason for the interest in Atlantic City. The Bet365 sports betting app should put Hard Rock Atlantic City on an even footing with Borgata and Resorts Casino, which also have launched their sportsbook products.
