Hardway Bets require a player to roll a point "the hard way", with the numbers on the dice paired. Thus, a Hard 4 requires a 2+2 roll. A Hard 6 roll requires the dice to be 3+3. The Hard 8 roll requires the dice to be 4+4. The Hard 10 roll requires the dice to be 5+5.
These are the four hardway bets. Obviously, a 1+1 and 6+6 roll exist, but these have other names: Snake Eyes for the 1+1 and Boxcars for the 6+6. Since snake-eyes and boxcars are two of the three craps rolls, bets on the number combination are treated differently.
The Hard 6 and Hard 8 bets pay 9 to 1 in the United States and have a house edge of 9.09%. The Hard 4 and Hard 10 in the United States bets pay 7 to 1 and have a house edge of 11.11%.
Because of their high house edge, hardway bets are considered sucker bets by gamblers. This site does not recommend making hardway bets.
